“Doyouwannatakeapictureof a snowman…..?”

20161211000354-01I watched a very good YouTube presentation the other night about procrastination by Tim Urban who run a very enlightening website called Wait But Why. It’s worth watching if you get the time (see what I did there?)

Can’t be bothered to try to find it?  Scroll down, it’s at the bottom of the post!  Don’t thank me….just send cash!

I tend to be a serial procrastinator, and that does not come as shock to those that know me well…or even not that well, quite frankly!

It was very much a wake up call to getting things done as opposed  organising events in my calendar and watching those dates come towards me at high rate of knots, duck so they don’t hit me, and wave at them as they go off into the distance.

What is the initial effect?  Well I’m sitting here writing this and 2:09am because I was going to write it during my lunch break tomorrow. Half an hour ago I was putting up the Christmas decorations that kept falling down and then decided I wanted to edit this picture of a snowman decoration that was, prior to writing, going to be pretty much the content of this post.

2016 had a lot of negativity about it.  It started with David Bowie dying and went downhill from there.  However, from negativity is borne positivity, at least around these here parts. And at least now

So what next?

Having written this it will be very difficult, and maybe a tad embarrassing to go back to the old way of doing things.  That doesn’t mean I wont procrastinate a little bit. I will concentrate on getting things done to the best of my ability, and there may be speed bumps along the way but Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Maybe the Romans should have watched the video as well!

2016 proved that I was a photographer that didn’t take photographs, a cyclists that didn’t go out cycling, a blogger (well, sort of) that didn’t blog, and somebody that loves playing football but watches his son playing in the garden instead of having a kick around with him.  Getting a bit deep here, especially as he’s likely to read this.

I think we’ve all had enough of 2016 but we are approaching the final stretch.  2017 will see me (if all goes according to plan):

  • Ride a 25 mile Mountain Bike Trail
  • Pass an accreditation at the RPS
  • Sort out the garden
  • sort out some worky-type stuff
  • Sell a picture on 500px.

I’m pretty certain there’s a guitar somewhere in this house that I bought about five years ago.

So there you have it. Onwars and upwards!   This post was only going to be a picture of a snowman.  Go figure!

Stay safe and enjoy the video
